Are Men Taking More Interest In The Bedroom?

I had a wonderful interview on my 88.9FM radio show with Dimity Green, Product & Marketing Manager for Legend Australia. If you saw my article on Get Into Bed with the Best of British then you’ll know who is Dimity Green.

We touched on the issue of designing bedlinen for men, because not all men have a female partner, or indeed a partner at all, to buy bedlinen. So many men do buy it for themselves; and they generally have different criteria. But are men taking more interest in the bedroom than they used to?

Bedrooms, or the the styling of them, used to be the sole domain of the female of the house – but, as Dimity pointed out, there have been radical changes around what men choose to sleep in.

 

Legend Australia, one of Australia’s largest bedlinen design and manufacturing houses with brands such as Logan & Mason, Private Collection and Florence Broadhurst, says its design criteria has changed substantially. Over the past couple of years men have become far more involved in the styling of their bedrooms

Dimity Green says that each of its collections now has to feature a number of more male-orientated designs – strong geometrics and stripes in bolder, deeper colourways are the preferred look of the male in the house. Which may answer the are men taking more interest in the bedroom question.

Designs such as Aztec Navy, Clayton Granite, Spencer Navy, Bronson Black and Trent Ocean are currently the top-selling designs for men for the current season – each featuring colour palettes of navy, taupe, grey or charcoal.

Aztec Navy, for example, from Legend’s Private Collection, features an exquisite yarn-dyed jacquard with horizontal panels of intricate geometrics – colours are taupe over a navy ground. Detailing is high-end with self-flange edging and taupe corded piping.

Spencer Navy is all about urbane sophistication – deepest printed navy with a fine wide-spaced white pinstripe. This is from the Logan & Mason brand and works perfectly with crisp white, solid navy and multi-hued geometrics.

 

Clayton Granite, from Private Collection, is a bold, more complex jacquard geometric that makes a dramatic statement in any bedroom. Colour palette is a mix of granite, white, silver grey and chocolate – the perfect starting point for a rich layering of sheets, quilt cover, cushions and throw.

Another in the list of top five favourites for men is Logan & Mason’s Bronson Black – a more classic mix of printed stripes in various widths and in a mix of black and soft grey. Again, the quilt cover’s detailing includes a trim of cord piping in contrasting colour.

Some men, however, prefer colourways not reflected in earth tones but tropical or sea tones. Logan & Mason’s Trent Ocean introduces a fresh mix of variegated printed stripes in aqua blue and taupe offset by white. Again, detailing is the key with pillowcases finished with a white cuff and button closure.

Logan & Mason and Private Collection bedlinen ranges are available nationally from bedlinen specialists such as Manchester Warehouse and other leading retailers. Prices range from $79.95 for a single set to $389.95 for a super king set. Pillow cases start at $32.95 per pair, European pillowcases from $49.95ea and long cushions also from $49.95ea.

And, of course, the girl in me likes the fresh fruity tropical colours also on offer from Logan & Mason.
