Yana Molodykh channeled ‘Sex and The City’ for a tiny 85 m2 apartment in Kyiv, Ukraine, which is now a glorious Art Deco-inspired space for a young couple.
Fountain Boulevard is a modern and private residence for a cosmopolitan couple. Having lived in the big cities of New York and Moscow, the young owners wished to buy their first home together in their home town. The choice of Yana Molodykh as the interior designer was not difficult. A graduate of the prestigious ‘Detail Design School’ in Moscow, Yana creates exclusive designs for private residences as well as offices, restaurants, and boutique hotels.
Her vision for Fountain Boulevard was an apartment that resembled that of Carrie Bradshaw and Big in ‘Sex and The City’ with strong Art Deco influences.
Geometric shapes evoke Art Deco Style
Yana Molodykh wanted to open up the small apartment into an airy space seemingly bigger than it actually is. A beautiful feature of the apartment is its large panoramic windows that flood the interior with daylight. Changing the floor plan, Yana opened the area into a united communal space for kitchen, living, and dining. This also provided a unique breakfast place with stunning views across the city of Kyiv.
The basic interior design was grey walls with geometric patterns in the floor, wallpaper, and furniture evoking an Art Deco style.
The reflections game is beautifully played out with glossy surfaces and mirrors. Light is reflected from natural light and the midcentury floor lamp, Stanley, from Portuguese brand DelightFULL. Positioned in the living room, it’s an important element in the apartment stylistically linking the entire interior.
Also in the living room is the iconic painting ‘Dancefloor’ by famous Ukrainian artist Tatyana Malinovskaya. It reflects perfectly the exuberant character of the apartment owner, a young woman who loves and knows how to attract attention.

The soft shift from a darker shade of grey on the walls into a lighter shade of the cornice, ceiling, and window slopes make a color composition of a living room more difficult and adds a magical glow”, says Yana Molodykh.

Yana Molodykh says that without a mutual understanding between client and designer creating a beautiful story is just not possible. She says a harmonious collaboration is achieved as the result of collaboration. Whilst her ‘signature’ may be airy interiors with delicate colours, textiles, and details, results do depend on the cients wishes. Yana also uses technology to help her.
“With simple tools such as collage on my smartphone I can immediately see whether this sofa or table is “living” in the interior or not. I also advise trust your intuition – the goods which have been selected intuitively, often perfectly complete existing ones in the interior. You should not be afraid to mix things and put some color into your interior. Refer to the process of interior transformation as to a game, and you’ll see how beautiful the result can be”.
