Roy Lichtenstein was one of the most famous pop artists in the world. Although he died in 1997, Lichtenstein’s contribution to Pop Art is unquestionable. Which is why ya gotta love Lichtenstein, and the fashion world still does.
A contemporary of Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist and others, Lichtenstein favoured the ‘comic strip’ as his main form of inspiration. Born in New York in 1923, Lichtenstein was an avid jazz fan frequently drawing musicians and their instruments. Studying at the Art Students League of New York during the summer of his final high school year, Lichtenstein finally left New York for Ohio State University because it offered studio courses and a degree in Fine Arts. And celebrities agree, ya gotta love Lichtenstein!
His thick lines, bold colours and comic-book style is still beloved by designers with Trelise Cooper paying homage to Lichtenstein through her COOP by Trelise Cooper AW15 collection.
This new collection is highly wearable, allowing fashionistas to make a statement “I’m cool and I like to have fun”
Ya gotta love Lichtenstein, so have fun this season. Make a statement, mix ‘n match, let your inner child run free…in a very stylish and adult way.
