On my radio show last week, I talked about three easy winter makeup trends and lots of callers asked for the information to be posted here on my website. Isn’t that nice 🙂

When it’s cold and wintry, our skin does suffer and sometimes it’s hard to even feel like revving up our makeup application. So these three hot winter makeup trends are really easy to do and will give you a glow and a gloss.

three hot tips

Add an Illuminated Primer

I am a big fan of primer and LOVE the Inika Minerals Primer, it’s beautiful. However, in winter try using an illuminated primer (Nars makes one that’s very good) that gives your wintry skin a boosting glow. Or, mix a light enhancing liquid to your foundation and apply them together. I use Clinique up-lighting liquid illuminator.

three hot tips

Use Creams Not Powders

Powder can dry out your skin in winter as winter itself is very drying on the skin. Replace powdered products with creams if you can, especially blush. A cream blush that glides on the skin is a great winter makeup trend as it gives the skin a more moisturised finish.

three hot tips

Invest in a Berry Lipstick

A berry lipstick is a wonderful, and easy, way to add a touch of vibrant colour to winter skin. This winter makeup trend is less Goth and more Sultry. It’s the latest celebrity-loved lip colour too. Look for a lipstick with ‘berry’ in the name or think raspberry & strawberry NOT grape or anything purple. Chubby Sticks and Maybelline have some great berry shades.

And remember, berry colours complement virtually any skin tone from very light to very dark.

If you are thinking about price, look for Designer Brands, Australis and CoverGirl for purse-friendly lip colours. If you want Luxe, you can’t go past Tom Ford. But also check out Nars and Stila at Mecca Cosmetica.
