Swimwear styles are on our minds the moment the sun peeks its way through the clouds. What will designers be putting out this season? Will I be beach ready? Can I get another year out of my old swimsuit ? The answer to that one is ‘NO’!

Whilst swimwear styles change incessantly, our love of the sun does not. It’s important to take sunscreen, an umbrella, beach towel and even a t-shirt to cover up from the harsh sun. But what about swimwear styles? Can anything other than a tent offer sunsafe protection?

Kate Davis Steer was shocked when she couldn’t  find sunsafe swimwear that was also stylish. With a background in design and fashion, Kate launched SunSoaked in 2012 so she could offer swimwear styles that had high sun protection but were also very fashionable. She had identified a gap in the market so was overwhelmed with the response to SunSoaked.

And looking at these fabulous swimsuit styles, I can see why.

In tropical ‘Paradiso’ fabric, this range of Sofia Maxi Dress, Clio Beach Pant, Adriana Long Sleeve Swim Top and Aaliyah One Piece, are made up to size 16 in UPF 30+ and 50+ fabric.

One of Kate’s design principles was to create swimwear that wasn’t masculine or sporty, was feminine and appealing, but still with a broad range of sun protection. Some women need to cover up for health reasons and others simply to minimise the damaging and ageing effects of the sun. Kate wanted to cater for a clearly enthusiastic market so her swimwear styles include coordinating tops, shorts, skirts, pants and the ubiquitous maxi dress.

Originally sold in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, SunSoaked is now worn and sold throughout Australia and overseas.

Now is definitely the time to be thinking about swimwear styles for the coming seasons, so you might as well make them sunsmart too. Now you have the option to cover up or reveal a little more knowing you have good sun protection. However, always use sunscreen, pack an umbrella, find a shady spot and enjoy.

SunSoaked is available from their website or follow them on Facebook or Pinterest.
