She Lion Creator Walks Fearlessly : An Interview with Kate Dillon

Every now and then, I come across a handbag that makes me stop in my tracks. Rarely do I come cross a whole collection. As I wrote in my article on the creation of She Lion bags for corporate women, it was my pleasure to see elegant leather handbags designed with corporate women in mind. The She Lion handbags are not simply stylish, they are seriously functional. So I sought out an interview with Kate Dillon, the Melbourne-based lawyer who created She Lion.

There are seven amazing bags in the She Lion collection and I own four of them. In a previous blog, I wrote about the Deal Closer Satchel and Laptop Bag (above image on the interview link) which I find incredibly useful. I can practically carry my entire office in one bag – laptop, iPad, folders, fashion magazines, pens, mobile, makeup bag, wallet, keys and even my ear phones for my radio show. I’ve put together some information on other She Lion bags in the current range and paired them up with outfits from Trelise Cooper and Viktoria + Wood. Because there’s one thing I have learnt from using She Lion bags, they look fabulous with EVERYTHING.

My next most useful bag is the Strategist Clutch which I have in navy patent with a croc print. It has room for my iPad in a separate padded internal pocket, has soft areas for mobile phone, pens and credit cards, plus it holds my makeup bag, sunglasses, keys AND the Everyday Pouch which I have in soft butter beige. Plus, the Everyday Pouch itself has an internal credit card folder and zipped purse which can be completely taken out. Fabulously flexible.

I don’t have it, but I totally want it… the Negotiator Backpack – has a backpack EVER looked this stylish. And as with all She Lion bags, the Negotiator Backpack is so beautifully made it suits the corporate AND the casual wardrobe. This is next on my hit list.

The ‘Originator Handbag’ is deceptive as it actually contains three separate areas for secretly stowing an iPad amongst it’s slim lines. I was very surprised when I first opened it because I was expecting a ‘normal’ handbag… although goodness knows why I’d think it was ‘normal’ given it was designed by Kate Dillon. Supremely stylish and exceptionally functional. And as you’ll learn from the interview with Kate Dillon, function is the target.

No collection would be complete with a compendium and the Trailblazer Tablet Compendium is the cream of the crop.
