Is it time to start thinking about an easy home makeover? Have you put aside a few days to spruce up your home and get it looking beautiful again? Then there are three very simple solutions you should consider.

You’ve got a plan in place for all the things that you would like to do, but when it comes to what features to include, are you unsure of what to choose?

Break it down into bite-size chunks – perhaps room-by-room – and think of your home as a blank canvas. You have the ability to do whatever you want to personalise your decor. What would an interior decorator do? Whether you want to create an elegant and romantic space or somewhere sophisticated and ultra-modern, you can. It’s your space; you have creative control over it.

If you’re a little stuck for ideas when it comes to the features to incorporate in your home, the advice below should come in handy. We’re not just talking about style, but also about practicality. The thing is, if you’re going to invest in your home, it’s important to be choosy about what you invest in. You want to include features that not only make the space look good but also add to its value.

1. Keep safety in mind

When undertaking a home makeover, it’s easy to purely focus on the look of your property. However, it’s important to always keep safety at the forefront of your mind. This means considering the safety elements you’ll need for your family. This will not only make your home a safer place but will add value, should you decide to sell in the future.

Safety may include flooring, for example. In wet areas – bathroom, kitchen, laundry, mud room, swimming pool – it’s important to choose flooring that’s either slip-proof or doesn’t become slippery when wet. When considering the look of slip-proof tiles, for example, there are now fabulous options that look like concrete and wood, suitable for both indoor and outdoor surfaces.

Among the other safety features to invest in is an intruder alarm. Do you currently have an alarm or need an update? To find out more about the designs and styles you can opt for, click here. Also on the subject of safety, did you know you can now purchase fireproof wallaper? Neither did I, but it’s available.

2. Select Hardwood Furniture

Don’t be tempted to replace old furniture with cheap pieces when you have a home makeover. Furniture that is cheap is usually reflected in the quality, which means ‘cheap’. If you want furniture to stand the test of time, and lots of use, then you need to invest in quality pieces.

The great thing about hardwood furniture is that, should you get bored with it, you can revamp it with chalk paint or varnish. Because you can update wooden furniture yourself, it can last for many extra years. Plus, should you decide to sell it, you’ll likely get a good price because  hardwood pieces hold their value.

3. Washable Soft Furnishings

You might think that this goes without saying, but you would be amazed by the number of people who pick soft furnishings that aren’t washable. If you want your home makeover to stay looking smart and stylish for years to come, you need to be selective about the pieces that you incorporate into each room. There are plenty of fabrics that can be easily cleaned; it’s just a case of choosing pieces that use them.
