Exterior design is how the outside of your home is presented to visitors and your own family. It’s easy to forget about the exterior of your home when the interior is enough of a challenge.

When it comes to home maintenance, we all focus on interior design. However, we shouldn’t forget about exterior design either. The outside of your house is an extension of your home. It gives off the first impression and it’s somewhere to enjoy in the nice weather.

This means that you need to pay just as much attention to it as you would your interior design. Let’s have a look at some of the exterior design areas you should be thinking about.

The Exterior Design of Your Front Door

Your door is often the first impression that you home give to people who approach it, so, you should make sure you take good care of it. You need to ensure that it is kept clean and tidy meaning it is presentable.

If it’s seen better days then it’s a good idea to give it a lick of paint or think about replacing it. When looking after your door make sure your home is easily identifiable with clear numbers or name on show.

The Exterior Design of Your Front Garden

Your front garden, again, gives off an impression to anyone looking at your home. People aim to achieve a good curb appeal so that others know that their home is well looked after. If your front garden is messy, cluttered and unmaintained it’s not going to give off the greatest impression.

Make sure any lawns are cut, edging is trimmed, walkways are in good condition and clean. Using a power hose to clean your walkways can give them a new lease of life and prevent the need to replace which saves you money.

The Exterior Design of Your House

There are several parts to your home that need to be looked after. Regularly clean the gutters, keep drains clear and clean, and repaint areas that are becoming chipped. Your roof is an area that often gets forgotten. However, it should be cleaned and looked-after including roof painting when it’s needed.

If there are any areas of concern, get these sorted as soon as possible. Leaving any small repairs can be detrimental and cause more serious damage in the future.

The Exterior Design of Your Back Garden

Your back garden is a true extension of your home, especially when it comes to enjoying the nice weather. You can enjoy alfresco dining, evening sunsets and entertain your family and friends. But, to do this you need to have a garden that you can enjoy and relax in.

Think about creating a space that is welcoming, easily maintained and a representation of you and your family. Section off an area of the garden for your children and create a relaxing adult space in the rest. Having a seating area outside is a perfect excuse to sit outside and enjoy nature. Install decking or paved area where you can create a comfy zone to chill.
