Combine ceiling lights, uplights, floor lamps, strip lighting and table lamps where you need them. Place lights on different circuits and dimmers so you can regulate as desired.
• Create a focal point such as a rug or feature wall and take cues for your decorating. For example, a feature stone wall may have different tones of black, brown, mocha, and cream so replicate these tones in the furnishings.

 

• Mix block colour and textured fabrics in the same colour family to entertain the eye and create ambience.
• Use different textures such as stone, granite, wood and glass. Soften with a rough textured rug, soft fabrics and art work.
• In addition to lights and lighting, add candles and tealights to soften the mood, depending on the use of the room.
• Don’t be afraid to add dark wood, paint or fabric to the room, but balance darker shades with more light hues.
