Luxury bathrooms somehow got me sidetracked when I planned to write an article on shower rooms. Wet areas, such as bathrooms, tend to be more like day spas these days with free-standing tubs, large showers, double vanities and excess floor space. But I was quite un-prepared for the opulence of some of these luxury bathrooms. Would you like marble, crystal taps, velvet swags, wrought iron chandeliers and sweeping views with that?

Now maybe some of these homeowners spend an inordinate amount of time in their luxury bathrooms – women mostly, I guess, but whose to say? Clearly lack of storage is not an issue…and the owners likely don’t have to clean all the glass / crystal / marble / rugs.

There is something wildly opulent about having a BIG bathroom. When building ‘per square metre’ can have lots of zeros, it’s understandable. But we girls DO spend time in luxury bathrooms – getting primped, primed and  glamorous…which means long baths, meticulous makeup application and taking care of our tresses. But seriously, you could fit a small army (and then some) into these spaces. I’m not saying they are all my ‘cup of tea’ – some are a little severe, but those that are light and airy are just divine. What do you think?

Yes, this is an amazing vanity basin. And just as an aside, if you think using precious stones for washing your hands in is opulent, see my feature on incredible precious stone surfaces. They have taken 150 million years to create.

And…back to luxury bathrooms.

I do have some favourites from this collection but they tend to be more modern and ‘clean’. I don’t like to much fussiness but that’s a personal preference. I hope you are getting some stylish inspiration for whatever luxury bathroom YOU want to create. Did you note the LCD screen? But here are some of MY faves.

And the ‘piece de resistance’ – a stunningly modern bathroom with subtle decor, parquetry flooring, Persian rug and a gorgeous shower room; which is how this whole thing started in the first place!
