LIFEwithBIRD was established in 2002 by Nicholas Van Messner (Life) and Bridget McCall (Bird) with a desire to create beautifully constructed leather goods and effortless, contemporary clothing. Their combination of unique skills and experience brought them together and the duo has now created a desirable aesthetic for the modern woman.

Bridget was a photographer and stylist working in London collaborating on magazine shoots for innovative media such The Face and I-D. Hardly surprising that Bridget returned to Australia as the accessory agent for Jade Jagger when you consider her Mother was a fashion designer in the 60’s for The Beatles and other rock celebrities. Her sister has her own eponymous label, Alice McCall.
Nicholas studied fashion design at RMIT in Melbourne and worked with street label Maiike as their Creative Director. His mother taught architecture at the Parsons School of Design in New York so eventually the two progeny of fashion would have to meet, right?
Both have a strong vision, technical ability and duplicate desire to design beautifully created clothing and accessories that are also rather unique. Whilst both are also highly talented in their own right, they have collaborated to a level that transcends their individuality. LIFEwithBIRD is a powerful combination of talent.
Opening their first boutique in Melbourne’s iconic, GPO Building in 2010, LIFEwithBIRD has grown to include six stores and continues to expand its global following. The importance of quality, innate wearability and attention to detail resonate deeply, informing LIFEwithBIRD’s core philosophy.
In 2011, LIFEwithBIRD launched the L.W.B. By LIFEwithBIRD collection of elevated essentials; an accessible counterpart to the ready to wear collection. LIFEwithBIRD continues to forge it’s own contemporary aesthetic in womenswear, menswear and jewellery.
Now parents to baby Veda, Bridget and Nicholas call Melbourne home where Bridget admits to wearing Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang alongside her own label. Sharing the development of their fashion label, the couple is here for the long haul.
