Kinky Curly Straight is an internationally awarded salon in Adelaide. Sometimes Adelaide is unfairly referred to as God’s Waiting Room despite South Australia providing more recognised innovation per capita than any other State in Australia. We in Adelaide don’t mind, because we know we have great wines, a luscious lifestyle and…Uros Mikic.

Uros Mikic - Creative Director - Kinky Curly Straight

Creative Director/Owner of Kinky Curly Straight in Adelaide’s leafy suburb of Norwood is enjoying a continued run of awards with the salon now being awarded three finalist nominations in the ‘Oscars’ of Australian hairdressing – the 2015 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards.

Winners will be announced at a sumptuous, and no doubt highly chic, Gala Dinner in Sydney on June 8th. The most prestigious and longest running hair awards in the Southern Hemisphere, the Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo nominations comes just two weeks after Kinky Curly Straight won SA Salon Business of the Year in the Australian Hair Industry Awards.

Uros says that being nominated is highly prestigious but for Kinky Curly Straight to be nominated three times feels like a dream to him.

Big Bang 4

We should all follow our passions, and for Uros Mikic to see Kinky Curly Straight achieve such success must be supremely rewarding for a business owner. But business acumen is one thing. What about the hair? I managed to get my sticky little fingers on some images that, I think, showcase the talent and ingenuity of Kinky Curly Straight.

And it’s not just women’s hair, in case you were wondering. I was totally enamoured of the men’s styles Kinky Curly Straight created for their ‘American Graffiti’ shoot. Never mind the man-bun, Uros was inspired by the true urban nature of New York. Texture, form and sharp geometric shapes with a bespoke individuality created lean and masculine shapes.

And for the ‘Urban Queens’? A fabulous dichotomy of strength and deconstruction mixed with softness and movement, bohemian-inspired and harsh & edgy.

Kinky Curly Straight is a divine Adelaide institution and we love it! Yup OK, Uros knows how to run a business, but man does he know HAIR! I’ll keep you posted on how Kinky Curly Straight does in the national awards. No doubt more gold and silver will be added to the awards cabinet.
